James J. "Jim" Thomasson III
Jim Thomasson is a proud native of Newnan, Ga, where he graduated from The Heritage School in 1980 before earning a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University. His commitment to community service began early serving the Boy Scouts of America in various capacities and becoming an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow (OA) inductee, and The Vigil Honor recipient.
Representing District 3 on the Newnan City Council, Jim actively contributes to the Newnan community. He and his wife Jennifer have two children, J.J. and Cheney, and four grandsons: James, RB, John Will, and Winslow.
Jim is dedicated to promoting personal and community wellness in Newnan and Coweta County. Taking cues from his Scouting experience, he believes that growing a healthy, active community is key to attracting new businesses and residents. His extensive community involvement includes:
- Founding Member of the Board of Directors for Friends of LINC, and the driving force behind establishing the LINC
- Strategic Planning Committee Chair and former Board Chair of The Heritage School
- Former Chair of the Newnan Downtown Development Authority
- Former Vestry Member and Finance Committee Chair of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
- Former Chair of the Quality Committee and Board Member of the Newnan Piedmont Hospital Board
- Former Board Member of the Newnan Coweta Chamber of Commerce
- Former Board Member of the West Central Technical College Foundation
- Former Risk Management Chair of the Flint River Council of Boy Scouts of America
- 2022 Recipient of the Golden Eagle Award, Flint River Council, BSA
Thomasson is a visionary and an innovator. His career began in property and casualty insurance, after which he founded a company that developed an insurance software program that was later sold to the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI). He also founded MyrtleTech, an IT networking company, and 75 Jackson, LLC, a commercial real estate investment and management firm, the former which sold in 2011 to All Covered, a division of Konica Minolta.
In his spare time, Jim enjoys cycling around downtown Newnan or on the LINC. He is also passionate about traveling, sports, and spending time with his family.
