This morning, at approximately 08:33 a.m., an officer-involved shooting occurred at 997 Bullsboro Drive. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene. The injured male, 29, whose identity is not currently being released, was transported to an Atlanta area hospital, where he is expected to recover from his non-life threatening injuries. An investigation is underway and will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. This is an active investigation and further details will be released as they become available.

The Newnan Police Department is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $40,852.80 High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) Grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).  Funding for this grant is provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is awarded based upon the partnership with The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in helping to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities across the State of Georgia.

Newnan Police Chief Brent Blankenship shared, “The Newnan Police Department is honored to partner with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. This funding will further assist the Newnan Police Department’s Traffic Unit and help keep our citizens and visitors traveling in and through the City of Newnan safe.”

The Newnan Police Department today arrested Scotty Elliot Smith. This arrest is the result of countless hours of dedication by the Newnan Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, as well as the direct, professional assistance of the Coweta County DA’s Investigators.
